Welfare Policy

A Welfare System That Empowers, Not Entraps

New Zealand’s welfare system should provide real opportunities, not just handouts. The Unity Party is committed to removing barriers, creating pathways to independence, and ensuring support is available to those who truly need it—without fostering long-term dependence.

At Unity, we believe in real solutions:

✅ Ensuring Stable Housing for Kāinga Ora Tenants – Automatic rent and power payments will prevent evictions and utility disconnections, keeping families housed.

✅ Getting Job Seekers Into Meaningful Work – Community work programs will provide unemployed individuals with valuable skills, supervised by trained professionals to ensure support, not punishment.

✅ Breaking the Poverty Cycle Through Housing & Homeownership – Flexible modular housing, government-backed interest-free loans, and a rent-to-own model will provide long-term stability and financial independence.

✅ Building a Local Food Distribution Network – Partnering with New Zealand food producers to cut costs, reduce reliance on supermarkets, and strengthen local supply chains.

✅ Establishing the KiwiWork Employment Platform – A national job and contractor marketplace connecting job seekers directly with employers—eliminating the need for expensive recruitment agencies.

Welfare should be a stepping stone to success, not a lifetime of struggle. The Unity Party is committed to practical, sustainable solutions that help New Zealanders build stable, fulfilling lives.
